READY TO FALL (Stranded in the Starlight) by Mad Mar Walker VERSE 1 They say I've gone raving crazy more than a little frayed around the edges Say baby, have you ever loved a lunatic before? Say, have you got any spearmint chewing gum? Could you give a little baby? Could you spare me some? I was unraveling like a worn out rug I was broken and begging... REFRAIN: Stranded in the Starlight Hollow in the empty night Say, didn't we go just a little bit wacko? On tip-toe on a tight rope, weren't we ready to fall? On tip toe on a tight rope, ready to Fall. VERSE 2 Every day in those days was a little bit of anguish I was pretending to myself that I did not love you. That kind of thing piles up like dead leaves in the fall, and winter wasn't far behind. I lost my heart, then I lost my mind I couldn't go forward. I couldn't go back. It was like being drawn and quartered, tortured on the rack. REFRAIN: Stranded in the Starlight Hollow in the empty night Say, didn't we go just a little bit wacko? On tip-toe on a tight rope weren't we ready to fall? On tip toe on a tight rope, ready to Fall. VERSE 3 Oh baby you are like an old burnt marshmallow, a little crusty on the outside, but your hiding heart was oh so warm and sweet. How could I love you? How could I not? Don't know if it was worth all the trouble I got... I knew, I knew I should never let you in How long could I resist the sweet smell of your skin? REFRAIN: Stranded in the Starlight Hollow in the empty night Say, didn't we go just a little bit wacko? On tip-toe on a tight rope weren't we ready to fall? On tip toe on a tight rope, ready to Fall.

LOST OPPORTUNITY by Mad Mar Walker I think of you in the middle of the night but you're too far away I can taste your mouth and hear you purring in your sensual way I don't suppose I will see you for a while (Maybe you'll call) You're busy chasing, I bet, some little doll to match your style (I wish it was me) But I will chalk it up and write it off as a lost opportunity. Chalk it up, as a lost opportunity. I not much good as a flirt and I have never beena tease. If I touch you at all it's 'cause I'm willing to please. Couldn't you smell the brimstone that smokes up my soul? I was to shy to ask. I was hoping you wouldn't go... It's not the times I've been wild that I ever regret, It's the loving I missed I can't seem to forget. And you must be just as foolish as me; we could have had it all so very easily. I read Dostoevsky and Nietzsche with competent grace but I even miss the obvious when I read your face I thought you were leaving You thought I was messing with your mind In the gripe of desire we are deaf and dumb and blind so blind If you're willing spell it out don't expect that I will guess If we leave things to fate fate will leave things a mess So won't you please take another look? Some things are worth the bit of trouble they took.... I think of you in the middle of the night but you're too far away I can taste your mouth and hear you purring in your sensual way I don't suppose I will see you for a while (Maybe you'll call) You're busy chasing, I bet, some little doll to match your style (I wish it was me) But I will chalk it up and write it off another disagreeable lesson that I've learned now didn't even have the chance to get my self burned Not this time. Chalk it up as a lost opportunity.

WHERE ARE YOU NOW? by Mad Mar Walker I want to sit in your lap I want to mess up your hair Where are you now? You call me up You speak your words but I hang up I have not heard where are you? where are you? where are you now? I cannot see you your face is blurred I cannot free you when your voice is slurred I want to sit in your lap I want to mess up your hair where are you now I stamp my feet where are you? where are you? where are you? where are you? I cannot sleep you talk was cheap I want to sit in your lap and mess up your hair but where are you now?

WISHING STONE (Long Pond is Cold) by Mad Mar Walker Long Pond is cold and clear. I can see pine needles on the bottom from here. White pine reach straight to the sky. Their roots are twisted I bet their eyes are dry. I tried to hard and I was far too kind. I let you talk me right out of my mind. You worn me smooth like a Wishing Stone. You say you love me - well here i am, You say you love me - right here I stand. If you love me - why do I stand here alone? Chilly rain taps down on my roof, the sound brings back memories that ache like a bad tooth. It's doesn't get better, it never goes away. Maybe I'd better find myself a dentist today. I tried too hard, I cared far too much. I think your heart was out to lunch. You wore me smooth like a Wishing Stone. You say you love me - well here i am, You say you love me - right here I stand, If you love me - why do I stand here alone? Cathedral Ledge is a good place to cry, a place of nature and healing where the heart can fly. White Mountains, in their blanket of snow, make you forget the love that had to go. When you look up at the stars at night You know your heart will be allright thought it's worn smooth as a Wishing Stone You say you love me - well here i am You say you love me - but it's right here I standI If you love me - why do I stand here alone?

OLD BACK ROAD by Mad Mar Walker REFRAIN: Just give me an old back road and a beat up car That will get me very far I will ride to the nearest star on an old back road and a beat up car VERSE 1 Go where the trees are mighty, and the road keeps disappearing. Go where the birds are singing, and the ruts in the road keep your chasie ringing. VERSE 2 Go where the woods surround you, and the underbrush is growing. Go where the woods are breezy, and the smell of trees in the wind makes the breathing easy. VERSE 3 Walk in the mountain's shadow through pines and over mosses. Look where your road has brought you, and see and smell and live all the poems nature's taught you.

The Sea is Filled with Dreams Dreams are so very fluid Ethereal and flowing Dreams always are in motion and you can't know where they're going They could be running down down into the Storm Drains the storm drains empty in the river the river empties in the ocean and the sea is filled with dreams the sea is filled with dreams Life is so very fragile and filled with self-delusion We think we know the story but what we know might be illusion We could be running down down into the Storm Drains the storm drains empty in the river the river empties in the ocean and the sea is filled with dreams a million broken dreams Love is like shadow-dancing you step with what you think you see. Your lover explains who he THINKS he is, but what is the reality? Love could take you to the clouds, then it could rain you down down into the Storm Drains the storm drains empty in the river the river empties in the ocean and the sea is filled with dreams the sea is alive with dreams. Fish out a dream for me

What I Wanted.... (KISS ME) by Mad Mar Walker I can't think what to say I'm all tangled up in nerves and you go acting formal talking business and throwing me curves None of your serious, well-directed intelligent conversation ever missed me but what i really wanted was for you to kiss me. I'm still sitting over here You're sitting way over there and in between is no-man's land where nobody dares Some folks move so smooth oh I'm so shy Can't you see my eyes get misty. I'm not much of a mover so please come over here and kiss me. I guess I'm not your cup of tea I'm not your brand of whiskey You sure don't look nervous You're sure NOT getting frisky..... I can't think what to say I'm all tangled up in knots You sit there so damn cool while I suffer with the hots So folks move so smooth Oh I'm so shy can't you see my eyes get misty. Now you know what I wanted So please come over here and kiss me.

IT'S LOVE THAT MAKES YOUR FREE by Mad Mar Walker VERSE 1 Stubble bearded papa what have you got to say? We never did much talking anyway. Half of what you tell me I know that it's a like, the other half is guaranteed to make me cry. REFRAIN: Love won't grow so easily it's raging up like the sea Love is the thing that pains your heart and it's love that makes you free VERSE 2 Weather can be sunny Weather can be mean and bad Love can be sweet, it can be sour and sad Try to start a fire in the pouring rain You can light the body -buddy can you light the brain. VERSE 3 I've known my share of stubborn old men One or two I'd like to see again. Faces like sandpaper, hearts of stone Breathing fire, they burn you right to the bone.

PEGASUS by Mad Mar Walker Through history man dreamed to fly but a reasonable man does everything he can to obey nature's rules and progress is made but the edge of the blade - that's mad men and fools. They're standing in the high place with only rocks below. They think they can do anything, Lift those wings Pegasus Let's go! Somewhere flying as you walk in the sun your thoughts they run so free Somewhere flying through a bold blue sky ah you and I - we can't run - ah but we fly! Thoroughbred stallion, he's got fire inside on the wings of his pride he takes the lead, sets the pace until the wicked fates spoke and a foreleg broke but the stubborn horse finished the race He's standing in the high place with only rocks below he thinks he can do anything lift those wings Pegasus Let's go! Somewhere flying as you walk in the sun your thoughts they run so free Somewhere flying through a bold blue sky ah you and I - we can't run - but we fly! Lone wolves and wild leadmares they can't quite belong they can't hear the song of the pack If you're different stand apart If you're fierce and if you're smart you will never go back! You're standing in the high place with only rocks below You think you can do anything Lift those wings Pegasus Let's go! Somewhere flying as you walk in the sun your thoughts they run so free Somewhere flying through a bold blue sky ah you and I - we can't run - but we fly!

about

"These Broken Years" includes recordings made from 1985 through 2009 with three tracks cut this past year. The tracks were recorded with a variety of equipment, in Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut. Watch the blurb on each track for information about when and where. On the track, Wishing Stone, I had assistance from the always incredible Dickie Tilton, (dickietilton.com )who tickled the ivories, created the keyboard arrangement, and who recorded that track. I also had assistance with Old Back Road, and The Sea is Filled With Dreams, which were recorded by Pierce Campbell (piercecampbell.com, an all-around class A performer and a former state Troubador) , in his CT studio.
