about

This song was really an experiment that I caught on tape. I never used the song in performances, because I had it in mind as a fast rock and roll number with a different tune. I found the recording this year, and it brought back the futility of my love life over the years. It touched me and I thought it should be preserved. I made this recording in a session in Cornish Maine in 1991 or 1992, in a tiny apartment that was formerly an optometrist office. This was an analog recording made with a Panasonic Technics tape deck and a Shure mic.

lyrics

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

by Mad Mar Walker

I want to sit in your lap
I want to mess up your hair
Where are you now?

You call me up
You speak your words
but I hang up
I have not heard
where are you?
where are you?
where are you now?

I cannot see you
your face is blurred
I cannot free you
when your voice is slurred
I want to sit in your lap
I want to mess up your hair
where are you now

I stamp my feet
where are you?
where are you?
where are you?
where are you?
I cannot sleep
you talk was cheap
I want to sit in your lap
and mess up your hair
but where are you now?
